We all know how technology is helping change the world into a better place, a place where we can do the most difficult of things in an hour or less. Well, that might count for someone working on a project, but for someone who wants to spend their down time using technology to have fun, we want the time to be a bit more elongated. There are quite a few ways of doing so, like watching sports.
Soccer is a popular sport, even in the United States. Many people watch it and with the lifts on sports betting in multiple states, people have started to bet on sports again. William Hill, a casino and online bookmaker, is aware of this, like many other casinos and bookmakers are, so they already have promotional codes and sign up bonuses ready.
But, for those who just want to watch sports, should they settle on using a normal screen or should they try Virtual Reality? Is soccer watchable with VR? Yes and no.
The State of Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is used by the army, or rather, various military forces in the world to train their pilots and soldiers in general, to handle situations which would otherwise be dangerous to exercise in. VR is also used in video games, mostly in mobile ones, then desktop ones. Video games which are low on graphics and have fewer objects for your machine to render are preferred to those which have beautiful graphics but cannot run consistently. Why? Because you want a consistent frame time when playing games in general, let alone in VR. Having your frame rate jump up and down is annoying when gaming, but when gaming in VR, it can make you sick. In order for you to have a good experience, you would need to have a powerful computer.
For sports broadcasts, you just need a device which can decode the information and play it. There are a couple of applications which do this, but there is a caveat.
VR is Growing… Slowly
There are a couple of applications which can allow you to watch soccer through a VR headset, namely FOX Sports VR and NextVR. Both of them allow you to watch various sports, including soccer, through VR headsets, the Oculus GO, for example.
They have a subscription-based system which means you need to subscribe to be able to enjoy the full features of the applications. The FOX Sports VR app currently has issues connecting to other accounts, which makes things problematic for the users. When it works, it works well, but otherwise, it is lacking in essential features.
NextVR works fine, but there is a limited number of sports you can watch, not to mention the matches broadcasted in VR. The problem lies in VR still not being as popular as regular television is. The possible hassle and problems divert people to TV, which is simple and well-established.
Soccer is watchable through VR, though only certain matches from certain leagues in the world. It is better to stick to the normal screen for now.
